It reminds me of the many other pointless 'legal security blankets' that people are fond of over-employing - especially patents and NDAs. Most people significantly overvalue patents. Unless you are in biotech or other 'hard' tech industries, they are mostly worthless, though I guess they at least have some psychological value. NDAs are even worse. Anyone starting a business looking for funding, partnerships, advice, etc and requiring an NDA is simply demonstrating their own ignorance, insecurity, self-importance, or combination of all three.
