We can often detect subtle negative points that aren't even there when our antennae is up. We need to, like you said, change our perception and look for the positives right off the bat instead of the negatives. Not only will we more easily find a solution to our problem, we will also remain more confident and optimistic when approaching future gloomy situations. Excellent point, Brian!
