Good point Ronny, I guess practice was built into every day life. In the same way I suppose its possible to build speed reading practice into every day life by using the techniques whenever you read a book.

"Your brain did this on it’s own without any special training."

Actually your brain trained all his life to read "CAT" and not "C" + "A" + "T" = "CAT"

You brain practiced so much while reading at school, on billboards, subtitles on TV, cereal boxes, etc. till it got where it is today, enabling you to read that fast.

People who didn't practice as much as you did will still read "CAT" the same way they did at school.

I have tried speed reading, once you stop,so does the speed.
Personally I think PHOTO READING is more advanched, since your eyes can move only that fast.

Check out Darren Brown Photo Reading on youtube.com.

Just a thought.
