Brian-

Any update on going back to the old business model for UniversityTutor? Are the tutors continuing to come back? Hopefully this will be one that works for them. It's good that you tried the other one or you never would have known, especially if this ramps back up soon.

I sort of have a love hate relationship with google website optimizer. It has so much potential but never seems to make things easy. In this case I cuz hand programmed the split testing it.

Basically I set up a new table in the database and it just saves a little note there any time an "event" occurs that I'm interested in. So far those events are:
1. new tutor signs up
2. email gets sent to tutor asking them to subscribe
3. tutor subscribes
4. revenue is generated from a tutor subscription

50% are seeing one price 50% are seeing the other

This will be enough to determine what the conversion rate is for each group, and the total revenue per tutor that signs up for both groups

the prices are really just a guess based on what I think I might be willing to pay...hence the testing is needed since they are really just guesses :)

I've always wanted to learn how to do the split testing - I'm assuming your using Google Website Optimizer for this? I'd love to see a post on how you setup the GWO to work with your site and show some of the tracking. I'm sure many others would like to learn how to do something like that also.

How did you come up with those numbers ($9.95 vs $5/month or $89.95 vs 45/year)?

I like your ending quote about waking up at 7AM to work for someone else -- aint that the truth........ =/
